Yoga and The Winter Solstice

The winter solstice marks the shortest day and longest night of the year, a powerful turning point that invites stillness, reflection, and renewal. In yoga, this seasonal shift is seen as a time to slow down, turn inward, and reconnect with our inner light. Gentle, grounding practices—such as restorative poses, longer holds, mindful breathing, and meditation—help calm the nervous system and restore balance during the darker months.

Practising yoga around the winter solstice encourages us to honour rest rather than resist it, releasing what no longer serves us and setting quiet intentions for the months ahead. As the days gradually begin to lengthen, yoga becomes a supportive ritual for nurturing strength, clarity, and warmth from within, reminding us that even in the depths of winter, growth is quietly beginning.
