Śavāsana

Śavāsana, or Corpse Pose, is often one of the most overlooked postures in a yoga practice. It can be tempting to simply lie down and let the mind drift back to the day's tasks, or wander down memory lane but in doing so, we can miss the profound benefits of this deeply restorative and rejuvenating pose usually visited at the end of our practice.

If your practice has included deep forward bends or backbends, placing support beneath the knees or lower legs may help the lower back release residual tension. We often like to offer a bolster at this point to assist here.

Let the breath remain natural, smooth, and unforced. There is no need to deepen the breath intentionally—simply allow it to flow with ease. Watching the breath within the body.

When it is time to leave the pose, move slowly and mindfully, moving carefully to help maintain the sense of calm and integration cultivated during the posture and your entire practice.

Our advise? Allow yourself at least five minutes in Śavāsana. As the body settles into stillness, remain gently aware of the sensations within. Can you cultivate complete physical relaxation & release while staying present and attentive to the subtle flow of breath and energy throughout the body?

We will see you in Savasana... Namaste
